Campagnolo is one of cycling’s most romanticised component makers. However, it is preparing for one of the most significant restructurings in its 91-year history.
According to reporting from Il Gazzettino and subsequently BikeRadar, the Vicenza-based company has told unions it plans to cut around 120 jobs. This cut equates to roughly 40% of its headquarters' workforce, a decision that has been made as part of an effort to stabilise its worsening financial position.
The message from Campagnolo management in the report is stark: "There is no alternative", it reads. The company has warned that without swift action, the consequences could be "dramatic".
The brand also believes these severe consequences would ripple beyond the company, hurting the wider Vicenza community, where Campagnolo has long been a major employer and a point of industrial pride.
