Patrick Eddy (Team Brennan) has upstaged the favourites in the elite men's road race at the Aussie Road Nationals, sprinting to victory in Perth ahead of three-time former winner Luke Plapp (Jayco AlUla).

Plapp's teammate Luke Durbridge had been solo up the road and looked almost certain to be riding to back-to-back titles – and the third title of his career – before Plapp contributed to a late chase that ultimately saw Durbridge caught by Plapp and Eddy inside the final kilometre.

Eddy, 23 – who is racing for Continental team Brennan after being let go by WorldTour outfit Picnic PostNL at the end of 2025 – stayed glued to Plapp's wheel as Plapp surged up the final climb, before powering away to take the win. Twenty-year-old Oscar Chamberlain (Decathlon CMA CGM) was next over the line from the remnants of the peloton, just nine seconds in arrears.
