Bespoked Dresden 2025: Dangerholm's prototype gravel wheels and concept Scott bikes

The collaboration between Faction Bike Studio and LX Lab takes the wide aero gravel wheel trend to new heights, er ... depths.

Gustav "Dangerholm" Gullholm has become known for pushing boundaries in bike builds. Often drawing inspiration from clean, integrated road bikes, Gullholm was hiding cables inside Scott mountain bike frames before the brand incorporated integration across its lineup. Describing his work, he commented, "What I do is take something existing and try to develop on it and make it better."

He's at it again, showing two modified Scott Bikes at Bespoked in Dresden. But this time, the bikes are only part of the story. Each bike, which is shown in detail below, is rolling on a set of prototype wide aero rims designed for mountain bike tires.

Faction Bike / LX Lab wheels

The wheels are a project between Faction Bike Studio and LX Lab, both Canadian companies, with the former responsible for design and the latter handling manufacturing.

Gullholm claims he had such a good experience riding Zipp's 303 XPLR wheelset that he wanted to take it a step further and create a version that supports XC mountain bike tires without some of the 303's drawbacks.

For Gullholm, the wheels felt stable at lower tire pressures than he was used to, while also offering an aero advantage. He sees gravel tires trending even wider now, and rims getting deeper, with none offering a similar aero benefit as the Zipp 303s. So he decided to have some prototypes made for experimentation.

Did we do a good job with this story?
