Biniam Girmay thinks NSN can challenge for cycling's sprint crown

Biniam Girmay thinks NSN can challenge for cycling's sprint crown

The three-time Tour de France stage winner is excited about what he thinks is "better" support than he had at Intermarché-Wanty.

There were three main sprinting teams in 2025: Lidl-Trek with Jonathan Milan, Alpecin-Deceuninck with Jasper Philipsen and Kaden Groves, and Soudal-Quick Step with Tim Merlier and Paul Magnier. Next year, there’ll be a fourth.

Well, that’s Biniam Girmay’s view, anyway.

Following the yet-to-be-confirmed but expected merger of Lotto and Intermarché-Wanty, Girmay’s contract with the latter team ceased to exist, and the Eritrean has instead signed a three-year deal with NSN Cycling Team, previously known as Israel-Premier Tech.

As the Lotto-Intermarché merger drags on, riders pay the price
The murkiness of the potential merger is showing no signs of clearing up, leaving riders in limbo on whether they have valid contracts.

Speaking at his new team’s launch in Barcelona, the 2024 Tour de France green jersey winner spoke effusively about why he has joined NSN, pointedly suggesting that he wasn’t supported as well as he ought to have been at his former team.
